Neutra:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last night VMZINC had the distinct pleasure of hosting a small dinner for Dr. Raymond Neutra (son of the other R. Neutra), and his lovely wife,\u00a0at <em>18 Seaboard<\/em> in Raleigh, NC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The meal\u00a0was the preemptive warm-up for Dr. Neutra&#8217;s speaking gig later on in the evening -an event put on by Triangle Modernist Houses.\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trianglemodernhouses.com\" target=\"_blank\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trianglemodernhouses.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.trianglemodernhouses.com<\/a><\/a>)\u00a0 It was also\u00a0the celebration of Dr. &#038; Mrs. Neutra&#8217;s wedding anniversary, which they were gracious enough to share with their dinner guests.\u00a0 (Congratulations!)<\/p>\n<p>Both Dr. Neutra, and Dion Neutra, AIA (Dr. Neutra&#8217;s brother) are intimately involved with their father&#8217;s legacy.\u00a0 The Neutra VDL Studio and Residences maintains a fantastic site for a part of said legacy at:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neutra-vdl.org\/site\/appeal-01.asp?1052012155626\" target=\"_blank\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.neutra-vdl.org\/site\/appeal-01.asp?1052012155626\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.neutra-vdl.org\/site\/appeal-01.asp?1052012155626<\/a><\/a>\u00a0 Another incredible site for all things Richard (and Dion) Neutra can be found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neutra.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.neutra.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.neutra.org\/<\/a><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The dinner guests included Marvin Malecha, FAIA -Dean of the College of Design at NCSU and former president of the AIA, (Pictured to the left of Raymond Neutra in the above photo), Dean Malecha&#8217;s spouse, local architects, landscape architects and fans of Richard Neutra and architecture in general.\u00a0 We came to meet the man and hear him speak.\u00a0 We wound up listening to a lively conversation at times, and feeling like we were in on a sublime secret at other times.\u00a0 The setting lent itself to both, and was very intimate.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This intimate\u00a0setting allowed us to listen clearly as Dr. Neutra recounted his experiences with his father, and, moreover, with his father&#8217;s work.\u00a0 At one point in the conversation, Dr. Neutra&#8217;s humble and gentle spirit came to light as he recalled individuals telling him how his father&#8217;s work had impacted them in a positive way.\u00a0 It was obvious at that moment that we were not only listening to someone who had received\u00a0a love for the built environment, but someone who had also received an obvious care for his fellow mankind.\u00a0 The impact was understated and like most understated moments carried much more weight than the shouted or overtly celebrated.\u00a0 This moment alone was worth the price of admission and defined the link that we often miss\u00a0between great architecture and daily life.\u00a0 It also defined the good doctor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We are looking forward to meeting Dr. Neutra&#8217;s brother, Dion, in November -hopefully, like last night, it will be\u00a0over dinner.\u00a0 -VM<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/PjbYT9\">www.zincsense.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p> repost from www.zincsense.com<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"0\" style=\"display:none;border:0;\" src=\"http:\/\/tracker.sendible.com\/messages\/a1194a20-6a29-43e8-835d-a828a8e33099?service=Wordpress&#038;f=2072155&#038;view=true\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dinner with the Doctor -R.
