Set near the Houhai Street of Shenzhen Bay, the Shenzhen Poly Grand Theatre, designed by Shenzhen Huazhu Engineering Design Co., Ltd., is a landmark building. The building’s sleek design evokes a piece of high-tech equipment, or perhaps a drop of water. Viewed from above, its silver contour gleams under the sunlight, reflecting its surroundings in the Luxalon® 20mm Quadro Cladding Panels and 2.5mm custom aluminum panels provided by Hunter Douglas. The entire surfaces of the facade and roof are perforated, and each of the 6,000 honeycomb panels differ in size and shape. The silver color was created with Hunter Douglas’ exclusive Luxacote® finish, which is specifically designed to withstand severe external conditions, and contains a solid UV filter in the topcoat. It is worth mentioning that HDSZ completed delivery and all technical service for this project in only two months.
The new multi-million pound headquarters development for HML in Skipton, brings together more than 800 of its staff into a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rated building, equipped with a revolutionary Levolux Solar Shading system, which actually generates its own electricity. The development for HML, a subsidiary of Skipton Building Society, to the west of Skipton, consolidates its local business operations from four sites in the town centre, into a single site. The 10,000m2 development comprises two buildings, linked by a central atrium, with accommodation arranged over three and four floors.Locally based, Bowman Riley Architects, created an ambitious design, incorporating a raft of energy saving features. These include rainwater harvesting, solar hot water panels and a comprehensive Solar Shading system from Levolux. As a result, the buildings are much less dependent on energy-sapping artificial lighting and air conditioning.
In the heard of the American Rockies at the foot of the ski slopes of Aspen is a magnificent home with colors that contrast with the crisp white of the surrounding snow and the green of the trees. The materials were carefully chosen by the Architect Bill Poss and Associates so as to enhance the elegance of the building. Glass wood and VM Zinc blend tastefully.
The best World’s Fairs have served as seedbeds for innovation. The Hanover, Germany 2000 World Fair was among the best. One of the architectural highlights of the fair was Bertelsmann’s Planet M: a remarkable ovoid shaped building clad in Escale stainless steel designed by Triad Architects. In the daytime, the light-reflecting skin glistens, and in the evening the building glows from within as the mesh recedes into the night. Photography copyright 2001, Wolfgang Schwager.
