DAY TWO:(AIA National Convention in DC).

Day Two brought about the early morning finishing touches to the booth. Our team refined the concept, purchased the materials and put it all together at the show.  The finishing touches on Day Two (the first actual day of the Expo) were completed by the dynamic duo of Chandra Hester and Gary Engle -who had worked tirelessly through most of the night before to get the booth in tip-top shape. 

So, how did it go over?  The first real day of the trade Expo at the Convention (our Day Two), brought more than double the attendees that we saw the previous year in New Orleans.  In other words, one day with the new VMZINC “Lounge” was more successful than the full show last year in NOLA.  We dig NOLA, but how cool is this?

If you are attending the show, stop by booth # 329, put your feet up after walking all over the beautiful Convention Center, have a refreshment or two and charge your phone.  Oh, and don’t forget to look at the stunning zinc projects that surround you on our flat screen TVs.  Enjoy -VM.

How Nice was the interior of the Library of Congress/Thomas Jefferson Building?

Um… Very nice! 

Continuing from our earlier post; this is one amazing interior and highly recommended.  Do yourself a favor the next time that you are in DC, and go.

Check out the private residence located at the Lago Lugano (Lake Lugano) at the border between Switzerland and Italy. The architect is J M Architecture and the glass used is from Cricursa Glass.

Henry Madden Library includes a video installation by the artist and architect Susan Narduli. The installation shows a basket weaver at work during the course of 12 months. From this material, a motion picture was created that shows the complete process of creating a basket from start to finish in real time, running over a two-week period—making this undoubtedly one of the longest art films ever made.The large media façade is mounted in the interior of the building behind a large glass façade with its brilliance radiating outwards onto the planned “Peace Garden”. Students and visitors walking past the garden or the library will thus be able to view the basket creation process.

If ever less was truly more, there’s no better example than the radically austere Church of the Sacred Heart in Munich Germany. The exterior walls of this near cube are clad, floor to ceiling, in glass. The interior walls are clad in enormous sheaths of custom mesh, shielding the interior from the sun while at the same time promoting a sense of inner serenity. Designed by Allmann and Sattler and Wappner.

Dimension, color, shape: the architects at the ENTRESITIOS agency pulled out all the stops to make a social housing building a strong signal that contrasts with the banality of one of Madrid’s suburbs. This is a radical apartment building: dark, vertical and streamlined. The ENTRESITIOS architects opted for the spectacular rather than the discreet, with the aim of providing some architectural diversity to the cityscape. Photos: Roland Halbe

Because of its beautiful finishes, many contemporary interior projects lend themselves to use zinc as an accent feature. Some of our projects carry the façade panel from the outside through the glass into the lobby or living room. Other projects use natural zinc in the kitchen, around the exhaust or as a countertop.
